What is RSS?
Ok so firstly it's an acronym, derived from 3 web versions of Web content syndication:
RDF Site Summary (RSS 0.9, RSS 1.0)
Rich Site Summary (RSS 0.91, RSS 1.0)
Really Simple Syndication (RSS 2.0)
RSS is used as a standard to describe the syndication of Web content. That is to say, basically sharing content among different websites/blogs etc. When people use RSS the normally mean Rich Site Summary as Really Simple Syndication is usually referred to as RSS 2.0.
Advantages of RSS:
1. Finding information you want is easier
2. It's quicker as you do not need to visit the individual sites and browse
3. Protects your privacy online as no need for subscribing with an email address
4. No competing with spam in delivery to your readers (i.e. you and not the software)
